TGH OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS
TGH OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Studies have shown that minority students majoring in STEM leave those disciplines in disproportionate numbers, so we, at The Giving Hand have set out to change that. According to a study from the National Science Boars, African Americans and Latinos comprised only 4-6% of the entire STEM workforce. The purpose of this program is to encourage underrepresented women and minorities (such as Native Americans/ Alaskan Natives, African Americans, Latinx, and Asian Pacific Islanders) to major in and pursue careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The TGH Opportunity Scholarship grants first-year and transfer students $5,000 in financial aid for their first year of undergraduate studies at an accredited four-year university in the United States. This program recognizes merit and financial need because higher education should never be 'just a dream', no matter who you are. The costs of tuition, housing, transportation, and school supplies may thwart capable and highly motivated students from pursuing any majors in STEM.
BOOK SCHOLARSHIPS
The costs of books have significantly increased over the years and financial aid doesn't always cover a student's financial demands. The Giving Hand provides book scholarships to academically excellent individuals who can't afford the basic school necessities.
